| Problems with 8000 Series tractors and other equipment with EDC (Electronic) governors Most complaints such as stalling, hard to start, no start, surging and erratic governing can be attributed to an electrical problem of some sort. There have been numerous occasions where the wiring harness for the pump governor has had the insulation rubbed through and this causes one or more wires to occasionally short out. This in turn creates various problems depending on which wire or wires get shorted out. Therefore the first check should be an inspection of the governor wiring harness and then a qualified technician with the proper equipment should be utilized to completely check out the remainder of the electrical system. If everything checks out then an authorized fuel injection shop should then be utilized to check the injection pump components for problems. Complaints such as low power, loss of power, smoke and poor fuel economy can still be related to the same fuel system, air system and engine component problems such as engines not utilizing the electrical components. The troubleshooting guide can still be advantageous in troubleshooting the problem. Worn fuel supply pumps have been a reoccurring problem on the later style pumps due to a metal piston inside of an aluminum housing. Since the fuel to this supply pump is usually not filtered the aluminum housings are wearing out, this prevents the supply pump from being able to generate a great enough volume of fuel, especially hot. This can result in low power since the injection pump is basically starving for fuel in full load situations. Any further necessary repairs required of the fuel injection pump should be performed by an authorized pump repair station.
