| As mentioned above black smoke usually results from an air intake restriction which could be caused from the intake hose sucking shut. An exhaust restriction can also cause black smoke as well as a bad turbo. It's a good idea to install a turbo boost gauge so that the turbo can be monitored closely. White smoke can result from poor atomization of injection nozzles or from low compression. To check compression install a compression gauge and after 6 compression strokes the gauge should read 380PSI minimum.
