| Ford F250, 350, 450 & 550 Primary Fuel Filter Mounting Kit #RK 31923
This kit is designed for use with 1999 and newer 2WD and 4WD vehicles. For this application the 645R30 model fuel filter/water separator (30 micron primary filter element ) is suggested -order separately. For colder climate operations, the heated version is recommended: 645R1230 (includes a 12 vdc. 200 watt in-bowl heater -order relay kit #RK11861 unless your vehicle can accommodate a 17 amp draw at startup). The vehicle has an in-tank 200-micron mesh strainer and in many heavy-duty applications this may be inadequate protection for the fuel pump. This kit provides the means to properly install a Racor filter upstream from the pump to not only protect the pump from scoring damage, but to also provide superior initial filtration and water separation for the entire fuel system. The service element (R45P) should be replaced at the same interval as the engine secondary fuel filter, or sooner if conditions demand it. BRACKET KIT INSTALLATION. 1. Remove the plastic 'quick-connector' at the fuel pump inlet by inserting a flat blade screwdriver tip under the plastic lock ring and carefully prying it out. Pull the connector from the pump inlet. 2. Working at the opposite end of the above short fuel line, carefully slit the outer covering from the fuel hose and peel it back to expose the inner vinyl tubing. Carefully 'carve' away the tubing, working parallel with the steel line using a sharp knife blade. NOTE: DO NOT SCORE OR SCRATCH STEEL TUBING. Complete removal by twisting the vinyl tubing off the steel line using pliers. 3. Assemble the provided 'quick-connector' to the fuel hose and secure with a hose clamp. Remove the lock ring and then push the connector onto the fuel pump inlet until fully seated. Replace the lock ring, making sure it is snapped into place. 4. Mount the bracket
to the frame-rail bottom using the two ½" round
bracket holes and provided fasteners. (See bolts installed,
protruding through frame-rail in above view). Tighten fasteners
firmly (30-40 ft.lbs).. 5. PREPARING THE
RACOR FILTER. 6. Mount the Racor filter onto the bracket using the provided capscrews. Note: The bracket features one oblong hole to allow 'leveling' of the filter, as desired. 7. Make a smooth gentle loop with the hose (from step 3) and fit it up to the Racor outlet fitting attached to the head (see previous illustration above). Cut hose as needed and then secure with a hose clamp. NOTE: On 4 wheel drive applications, the hose must be routed over the top of the frame-rail. 8. Connect the remaining length of fuel hose to the steel line (from fuel tank) and secure with a hose clamp. Make another smooth gentle loop with the hose and attach it to the Racor inlet fitting (see illustration below). Secure with a hose clamp. NOTE: On 4 wheel drive applications, the hose must be routed over the top of the frame-rail. Ample hose is provided for all applications. 9. Using the provided cable ties secure the fuel hoses to existing hard lines along the inner frame-rail. 10. Prime the Racor filter by removing the spin-on filter/bowl assembly and filling with clean diesel fuel. Carefully re-attach to filter head by hand only. 11. Start the engine.
Only a minimal amount of cranking should be necessary and the
system should operate normally. Run engine at high idle for
a few minutes and then check the installation for any leaks.
If evident, shut engine off and correct the problem.
