Engine Oil Temperature Gauge
(All Applications)

According to our sources (we have yet to personally confirm all applications) the sender for engine oil temperature can be mounted in the oil pan itself utilizing the drain plug as the access hole. In most applications, however, this leaves the sender in a vulnerable position with a chance of being hit and damaged by road debris. An alternative location would be to mount the sender in the oil filter housing. On most applications, there is an allen head 1/8" NPT plug located above the oil filter in the oil filter housing. In the applications we have dealt with this passage has been the proper depth to accept the length of the sender.
To most this would be an acceptable alternative to putting the sender in the pan especially since our sources tell us that the temperature at this point would be very close if not the same as the oil temp in the pan
